You don't HAVE an A# yet - it is the number you get on your greencard
The A# is a case number that USCIS assigns to certain people, and then (usually, for exceptions see below) stays with you for the rest of your life, much like a Social Security Number. Most people get their A# when they apply for adjustment of status. It is also assigned if you apply for an employment authorization document (such as an F-1 OPT), a V visa, find yourself in deportation proceedings, and in a number of other situations.
Many USCIS forms ask for the A#. If you do not have one yet, simply write "None".
There actually are four separate types of A#. You can tell them apart by the number of digits and the first digit. The first kind is an eight-digit A#. These are manually assigned at local offices. If you have one of these numbers, simply treated it as if it was "0" plus the number. Nine-digit A#'s that start with the digit 1 are used for employment authorization cards, usually related to students. I log in every day to see whats happening with my I-140 , Mine filed in september and the processing date moved only 15 days in last month. It took 2.5 years to complete the labor and I think I am struck in I-140 here...
Any one received I-140 approvals recently ? I just want to know what is your receipt date

Hi,
I just had medical RFE for both me and my wife. We are July 2007 Filers and somehow our medical documents got lost or whatever, We received an RFE from USCIS and replied just in time.
I am primary applicant and I would be loosing job at end of october. I would not be finding a job due to personal reasons and would be on a 3 month severance package till january.
My Question is what are the chances of getting an EVL RFE during those 3 months? I know nobody can predict USCIS, but according to my lawyer, if they wanted EVL, they would have that in the RFE and chances of getting another RFE in another 6 months is very very slim.
This logic makes sense to me too. But anybody got weird experience where they received RFE, Responded to it and then got another completely different RFE in a short duration?

I don't understand ur reply. I haven't asked question of maintaining legal status. I am maintaining legal status. My question is very simple.
What documents are required for COS from H1 to H4?

I may not be able to answer your question directly, but I faced the same dilemma about wife's H1. I got her H1 changed to H4 by applying I-539. This process is very easy and it too my wife 2 months to get the approval.
If you are going out of country and try to re-enter US, with COS, it may not be an easy thing right now. It is getting tough these days, since it involves Visa stamp as well and they might ask too many documents from you and your husband. Even though you guys are legal and have got all documents, still it might be a trouble.
My opinion would be to apply for I-539 and after that reciept, you don't have to work. You will get approval much easier (H1 to H4) compared to H1 to H1 transfer.

Thanks again for your advice..
I have experience as 'systems analyst' continuously but job duties/responsibilities increased over last 7 years; during this time received multiple trainings, certifications, outstanding performer awards and traveled other countries for work etc. Will these help in proving 'progressive experience? My PERM requires Masters or 60 months of experience in any of the positions; programmer or IT analyst or systems analyst. Would it be sufficient in this case, if we can reflect progressive job duties in experience letters.
I have seen in many forum posts that affidavits from co-workers at client location (not colleagues) are valid, is this really true?
I'm planning to have a consultation with an attorney for a second opinion on this and discuss the strategy, how this petition should be filed, do you recommend?

My wife was on H4 earlier and then she coverted her visa into F1 (student). She got I 20 form from school with her, But She doesn't have F1 stamp on her Indian Passport. She got 2 hour halt in Paris.

While I agree that yours is a genuine case, I must say that you are asking a wrong question. How do one know when would your recipt come out from USCIS? No one has a crystal ball dude...Think before you send out a question there.....

If "if you re-enter US before your extension is valid" is not the case then following is my experience.
Once you get the new H1 visa stamped, the old visa is "cancelled without prejudice" by the consulate. The consulate puts a stamp to that effect on your old visa in the passport. I don't see how an IO would consider the old H1 Valid at that point. I have gone through similar scenario once.
You are right, I stand corrected. I was referring to the scenario when trying to re-enter on the current VISA stamp without getting a new VISA stamp and expecting to get an I-94 till the validity of the approved extension.

We were successful in getting good media coverage with flower campaign. Our San Jose rally is getting good regional coverage. Yes, we haven't had the expected success with national media yet but we are gaining traction at an amazing pace.
This is not a big corporation with some PR dept. that is working with hundred of employees writing press releases et al. Volunteers like you and me have to take on that action item if you want to see results otherwise please continue on with your discussion
That is absolutely right, it is our job to write to reporters and call them, if we want good publicity. Please digg, write to reporters, do not just wait on the sidelines and see if we have gotten any coverage. We wont get any by just being on the forums discussing.
On a second note, gsc999 worked very hard organising the San Jose rally, and personally I saw a lot of dedication on his part and some other members. People came upto him and asked him to arrange another rally next week. He answered it very well. Why dont people take ownership and organise things on their own, rather than just giving out suggestions and expecting other people to do the tough work.

I have one more question.
My wife, also a Canadian citizen, was on F 1 visa until June 2008. She is working on EAD now( based on derivative adjustment).
Her only status now is AOS pending and parolee( has used AP once last october).
Will she be able to enter back without an AP ? ( first AP expired and new one is pending @ NSC)

- have your new employer apply for Perm asap anyways. These days labor comes in 45- 60 days via perm. You should immediately apply for i140. The 140 is also taking 3-6 months. Once you get your 140 you can apply for a 3 year extension instead of 1 year since 365 day rule applies if your labor was filed 365 days earlier and you do not have either labor or labor and 140 approved. Others in the forum can correct me if i am wrong.

Just got response for my SR saying there is a RFE on my case and the letter is sent to my attorney. No update or no SLUD, LUD online. No RFE on spouse case but still waiting.

looks like they will make us wait till 17th and accept/reject case from July 2nd...and most of the rejected cases might not be eligible to refile :mad:...this is my guess!
