I love my iphone 4 and I don't plan on upgrading til 2012 but I disagree there is no need for a new iphone.
I think Apple still needs to make sure they keep up. And honestly, I would say the iphone needs a faster processor (I hear the 3GS is faster due to not having as high resolution) and better graphics/more ram and more storage (but honestly that will always be the case really, it's how computer tech runs, always needing to be faster).
Course, I've gotten a lot more into gaming on my phone ;). But I have had several apps (admittedly mostly games) that do have random freeze for a second which to me is kinda unimpressive since it is the latest phone (it's not that annoying, but just unimpressive and worrysome how it will keep up with apps when it ages if it already is experiencing some lag now).
No, I don't really have any want of new things on it (except for the excitement of what will they add now) and I'm perfectly happy with the GPS/camera (The two things i wanted improved on my 3G).
But if nothing else, Apple needs to at least put out a new iphone each year to keep up with speed and new applications that need more speed (and really even though I'm happy with the camera people expect the camera technology to improve on each phone). That's the nature of technology.

Even though I believe .mac to be overpriced for the value, after buying a couple of iMacs for my extended family, I decided that it made sense to by a Family Pack license of .mac because the members of my extended family aren't that computer savvy, so making photocasting and sharing files as easy as possible was a priority.
All the retailers I called had no stock on .mac retail boxes and told me they were on backorder. After placing an order a few days ago via the Apple Store online, the original ship date was estimated 1-3 weeks, but my order now shows an estimated ship date of October 24th.
I can only hope that this means that the .mac service and retail boxes are going to get released in late October with new functionality. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I can't figure why something as simple as a .mac retail box with an activation code is backordered more than a month since placing my order unless something was afoot.
I'll secretly wish for Merom MBPs at the same time of course. :D

I will always have a soft spot for Atari. My first PC in 1987 was an Atari 1040 ST Mega 2 which had (hang on to something...) 2 Megabytes of RAM and a 8Mhz CPU. I added on a HUGE 20MB hard drive the size of a shoebox. I bought it coz of the built-in MIDI port which I used to drive my recording studio.
In it's day it was a GREAT computer!!!

Hi.
After upgrading my computer and my software (from Tiger to Leopard) a strange thing happened: my Airport signal (which was the strongest before) is at the middle. But the strangest thing is that, when I open Network Preferences, my internet connection is showed as a PCI Ethernet slot 3, port 3 connection (although it shows an Airport icon); for Airport, it says it's connected but it has no IP address! I have a PCI Ethernet card, but it's not connected.
I also intalled a PCI USB 2.0 card, but I don't think it has anything to do with that.
Any ideas?

I'd rather pay and get upgrades than have the developer abandon the app because it isn't profitable to do anymore free updates.
Excuse me, but he did abandon it. He abandoned Tweetie 1 to create Tweetie 2.
I don't care about the $3. $3 is no big deal and I have absolutely no desire to have this app anyway. By the way, I keep hearing it's not an upgrade, but you're saying he's charging to keep upgrading his app. Which is it? Is he charging for an upgrade or abandoning his app that people paid for, for this brand new app that he says isn't an upgrade?
Quite frankly, whether this app is worth the money or not, is of no consequence to me (as stated, I don't want it in any event), but what does concern me is the precedent it may set. "It's only $3." Multiply that by all of the apps in the app store. Imagine some of the developers of the crap apps charging people for an update to make their games do what they should've done in the first place. It could turn into much more than "only $3."
Hopefully, that won't happen on a large scale, but I doubt some sleazy developers out there won't be thinking about it now. "Buy e-mail 2. If you purchase this app, you can send e-mail as well as receive it."

When oh when are they going to update that insanely arcane iCal "feature" on .Mac. Why isn't it easy to access my calendars from my .Mac homepage? And WHY can't I ADD an event from .Mac. So frustrating.
Amen on that. It's frustrating that a lot of .mac has been ignored for the past few years. It seemed like that service was improved more often back when it was free. I don't get it.

When you take forever to get the phone on VZW you should expect people to take their time switching.
First, you've let Android have all that time to get a following because it's the only alternative for the lack of an iPhone. Those people have also bought apps that they now enjoy and would have to re-purchase on the iPhone. This happens with video game systems as well.
Second, people are in 2yr contracts. There are very few people who are willing to pay more for a phone they can buy 4 months later at half price on top of the termination fee.
Third, not that many people hate AT&T it's just the handful of VZW fans that make it look that way.
And finally you have the reporting and reviews. All the reports I saw were telling VZW people and potential switchers to hold off on getting the iPhone 4. No 4G, no white and still had the questionable signal issues. The "iPhone 5" was supposed to come out mid to late summer so people were concerned Apple would sell them a phone and then jump up 6 months later with the newer, thiner, better version and leave folks hanging.
People are paying attention to these reports and that's why I feel the numbers were low.
